Chungju and Andong Reservoirs flow into the Nakdong River, which eventually flows to Busan. The Nakdong is partitioned into several parts. I have fished the southern river, but never the northern section. Near the town of Sangju several confluences meet and the current is slow enough to use the tube. There are bass boats that buzz around, so keep your head on a swivel. The first thing I noticed was the abundance of structure. Every bank has stumps, fallen trees, and brush piles. I started the morning fishing the wood. The water temp was in the low 50’s (it got up to around 55 F). There wasn’t much happening near the wood. There were some rock sections of the bank where the river would bend. I shifted my focus to these areas and found some fish willing to chase a small simple baitfish pattern. I started fishing on a floating line with a slow retrieve with a long pause after two or three sharp pulls. I made my way out to the main lake (river) and fished a flat that sloped down to ten feet. There were more fish in this area. In the next few weeks the bass might move into the feeder creeks and arms. No fish were moved with big patterns. I caught quit a few notch mouth chubbs with the largest around 14 inches.
