Gyeongcheon Lake 3/21/23

Fly anglers are wind adverse. However, bass fishing on calm days with blue bird skies can be a death sentence. I knew they day would be tough without any wind. The evening temps have also been fluctuating, and to make matters worse- the water level at Gyeongcheon is 15 feet lower than normal. The water temps got up to 55 F, but it I didn’t move any fish with the fly (they wouldn’t chase) Gyeongcheon is spread out, and I spent most of the day paddling to the major pockets to see if there were any bass up shallow (there weren’t). What I should have done was hunker down on the slopes around 17-25 feet deep. It is hard to catch these fish, but with a still presentation; sometimes you can get them to bite. I pulled one up from 20ft down and it was pale and cold to the touch; similar to the fish I catch in February. Hopefully next week is better.
